Since you live in the UK - I presume the Local stations are BBC ones.
BBC uses RealAudio format which is not a "native" format so you need
Slimserver running and a Plugin called AlienBBC to listen to these
stations.

If you are using Slimserver 6.5.x on Windows then the AlienBBC
installer can be found here.

http://www.x2systems.com/alienbbc/AlienBBC-v1.06_6.5.exe

Just download, stop Slimserver and run the downloaded program and then
restart Slimserver.

This will create a new menu item called AlienBBC under Internet Radio.
All the BBC local stations are in the menus.

With the AlienBBC settings (under Server Settings/AlienBBC) you can
move menu items around and so move you local station to top of AlienBBC
menu if you wish. Similarly you can move AlienBBC menu to top level by
editing the Player Menus and so make your local stations more
accessible with a few button presses.

I'd advise first get AlienBBC working - then look at making changes.

Due to recent BBC web changes, a few of the BBC menus no longer work
with the AlienBBC 1.06 release - patches and workarounds are available
if these menus are of interest.
