[SlimDevices: Beta] Softsqueeze 3.3

I know, I know... it's very old!  I want to run Softsqueeze on a Windows
Me box.  I have Java OK (JRE 1.4.2 SE), but running up Softsqueeze tells
me that my computer doesn't have a sound card, so it just stops.

I do have a sound card...

Is there a configuration file hiding somewhere that needs updating?  I
can't get to any Softsqueeze configuration dialogs (assuming there are
any; I have never tried to use it before and I haven't seen any
documentation ;-( ) as the applet quits immediately after telling me
about the lack of a sound card.

Am I living in the past?  Is my environment too creaky for Softsqueeze?
