I have found the thread dealing with the CLI problem which was
highlighted by slimfx:

A new thread on the topic started at
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32502 which concludes
that the problem is with Perl in some distros.

Of course development of the SC CLI code may have solved the problem. 
I haven't tried the tests since I loaded Perl 5.8.8.

I'd be interested in your views Andy.
