version.  It's a subject that has been avoided by anyone in the
development community.

(Hmmm... looks like the 'software roadmap'
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SoftwareRoadmap) has been
dismantled.  Used to be a few fuzzy ideas for SS 7 and SS 8.  I imagine
the Logitech buyout has changed quite a few plans.)

There was a short thread a couple years ago regarding user profiles. 
That's been about the extent of the discussion:

Changes for SlimServer 7.0 seem mostly aimed at stability.  From what I
can see, there are few changes planned that end user will notice.
