FWIW, I was having both problems (split second of silence and
intermittent playback stops) until I reverted to firmware 67 from
version 69 several weeks ago--not a glitch since. 

Using SS 6.5.1 Nov. 30 nightly, Win XP-Pro, one SB3 wired (via
Homeplug) and one SB3 wireless.
