Still fails for me.  I added an alert before that line, and saw that parent.status.document is undefined.

I changed the line to:
	newHref(this.document,newPlayer);
which seems to work in this instance.  Not sure if the function will be called from other frames though (in which case maybe it should do window.frames['status'].document, or something like that?).
