I later realized later that you could click the 'wedge' to move the
volume control, which is maybe slightly better than using the up/down
buttons.  I dunno, though, there still doesn't seem to be enough
granularity in the control be useful.

Why not a javascript dropdown to set volume to some number level?  Is
there something magical about 1 to 11 or whatever it was in the past? 
I can't even hear anything below 5 or 6 on my system, so that there are
only really 5 practical volume levels, which is pretty poor.  How about
a simple javascript dropdown of 0 to 20 or something similar?
