I just tried the file in the nightlys,
slimserver-2006_09_05-1

and it is clearly broken. Not clear if you had a chance to think you 
fixed it.

The RPM install seems to work, but SS does not start.
The startup fails with:
2006-09-05 23:23:22.7845 Use of inherited AUTOLOAD for non-method 
YAML::Syck::Load() is deprecated at 
/usr/local/slimserver/CPAN/YAML/Syck.pm line 45, <FH> line 1.
There was an error reading your SlimServer configuration file - it might 
be corrupted!:

So I tried the obvious things, I deleted my /etc/slimserver.conf
and restarted it. No joy.

Then I tried to use CPAN to install the YAML::Syck
which it said it did, but no impact on starting the slimserver.
