I think this is exactly the way to do it: for the second instance consider  
the first instance's MySQL the "external" server. Configure the second as  
if this was your own server, but use a different DB name.

You'll have to be aware that when you stop the first instance, the others  
will lose their database server. You'd therefore probably better off  
running MySQL independantly anyway and configure all slimserver instances  
appropriately.

The bundled MySQL isn't too different from a standard server. But you'd  
have to take care of running/stopping/managing it yourself.
