Yes. It is very repeatable.
It always connects immediately when I reboot the controller.

The controller is usually within 2 feet of the router during the
tests.
If I leave it connected to SqueezeNetwork it seems ok overnight even if
I have it in the cradle ~30 feet away.

I let it sit until screen goes black (~5 minutes) before before
shutting down Squeezecenter.
