[SlimDevices: Beginners] Both Duet components locked up

Sorry, I don't know what Jive is.
The controller is next to the router, the player is about 20 feet away.
The software says the player strength is in the 90's. It connects
immediately when I restart the controller but absolutely won't
otherwise.

Are you following the procedure I e'mailed (it's above in this
thread).
