Hi,
I am thinking of buying an SB3 to use with an external DAC. I would be
using it mainly to play 44.1kHz/16bit CDs from iTunes encoded in Apple
Lossless. My questions are:
1) What signal appears on the digital output? What sample frequency and
bit depth? Specifically is the 44.1kHz/16bit input stream padded out to
44.1kHz/24bit on the digital output?
2) What is the impact of the volume control on the digital output?
Specifically, if the input stream is 16bit and the digital output is
24bit, does this give the volume control a dynamic range of 8bits
(256:1) to work with before real precision losses occur? Or
alternatively, if the digital output is still 16bit, then presumably
there is quite a big loss of audio quality at lower volume control
settings?
