FLAC files have more comprehensive handling of meta data than the RIF
headers in WAV files. Things like embeded album artwork are possibe.

As well as less storage space required, you need less wireless
bandwidth if you are streaming with that. This combined with the
internal biffers of the hardware players being able to store more
audio, makes reliability on wireless networks a lot better.
