I used my Asus Eee to do that. Most people around me seem to be on 1 or
11, I have the choice of 5, 6 or 7 and one neighbour is on 7 (so I've
been tending to use 5).

I did, but it's a stupid name so you probably didn't notice. It's a
'2-Wire' brand which I think I picked up on eBay a while back. It
probably owes me nothing so I should upgrade. I think the problems may
have started because some neighbours have taken up a BT offer of a free
'Home Hub' (basically a wireless modem router) so have started new
networks or change their old ones.
Thanks for the suggestions folks. It's probably confirmed my view that
it;s time for a new router.
