[SlimDevices: Beginners] SB3 Menus slowed right down

I had a very similar problem with a brand new SB3 at the weekend, using
SqueezeCenter 7.0-17793, but running under FreeNAS. The symptoms were
nearly identical to yours. I could work the unit perfectly from SC but
not from the remote (until I'd started the unit up via SC). As long as
the unit was playing music it was fine. As soon as it dropped into the
RSS news feed it locked up. The RSS news feed would scroll but the unit
was unresponsive to the remote. The scroll speed of the RSS was not what
I'd setup in the SB3 settings either. It still dropped into the RSS news
feed even after I'd disabled all plugins.

I tried factory reset. I tried rebooting the NAS. I tried stopping and
starting SC. I disabled all plugins in SC. Nothing worked.

Eventually I deciced to upgrade to SC 7.01 and it's been fine ever
since. I haven't re-enabled any of the plugins yet, but I'm not sure I
want to...
