My controller says it has version 7.0.1 r2287. That's from april 19. As
an engineer, I'd say don't try to fix something that's not broken, esp.
in software. So leave receiver and controller as is if they now work.

BTW. What I saw wasn't a small problem: it's blocking the whole thing
to work, and I too was about to throw it out the window. To remain in
Microsoft analogy: it should have been a hot fix by now. Or would it be
acceptable to wait for a new service pack while your PC is rebooting
itself every few minutes, and in between reboots it is stuck in an
update screen?
