The simples route and the one with greatest support would be to get an
optware environment on the LSpro (
http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware/HomePage ). This would give
you access to the package manager IPKG and a cross development
environment which has many packages already ported including perl. I am
in the process of completing IPKGs for SS 6.3.1 and 6.5.x using optware
on the Freecom FSG3 which should be re-usable to build SS packages for
other optware ARM based systems

The supported platforms for optware are
http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware/Platforms

There has been a flag raised within the LSpro group about optware -(see
near bottom of this page)
http://linkstationwiki.net/index.php?title=LS-GL_Custom_Firmware_Development

The LSpro is based on a similar chipset to the Maxtor Shared Storage II
(MSS) and I think there has been some work done getting optware on the
MSS. For you, the issue is to get an optware environment onto the
LSpro - the optware group will give help but only a user with a LSpro
can do it.
